Julio Llamazares

To “La pioggia gialla” by Julio Llamazares (Ed. Einaudi) one of the most touching books written on the decline of rural civilization.

Born in a village in the Leon area, now flooded by an artificial lake, in his novel Llamazares tells the end of a rural microcosm.

The narrating voice belongs to the last inhabitant who, in a sorrowful monologue, records all that his memory can still preserve in the perspective of a future already indelibly marked by the desert of death.

The title “La pioggia gialla”, refers to the fall of autumnal leaves that lie like a shroud on what once was a place of life, work and ancient civilization.
