Italian writer and Germanist, President of the Jury until 2005. He dedicated important studies to the culture of Middle-Europe and, more in general, to the crisis of contemporary literature. He received the prestigious Prince of Asturias Award in Literature in 2004. He has been a member of the Accademia dei Lincei since 2006.
