Nonino International Prize 1989
Jacques Brosse
In an age that privileges specialists, the Parisian Jaques Brosse has chosen to be an encyclopedic eclectic person: naturalist, botanist, sociologist, geographer, traveler, essayist, novelist, portraitist, but always and anyway a bright and exquisite writer.
In mentioning two of his books for the Italian public – “L’ordine delle cose” and “Storie e leggende degli alberi” – published by Studio Tesi, edited respectively by Mario Soldati and by Leonardo Sciascia, the Jury of the Nonino Prize, has wanted to highlight the clairvoyant witness of the beings or the things of the universe, each of which becomes for him, and for his readers, an introduction to the world.
